Rafael Tögel is a seasoned Patent Engineer, who leads the Mechanics practice at Licks Attorneys. He is also the head of the firm’s Curitiba office. Mr. Tögel’s work focuses on assisting clients to prosecute and obtain patent rights in Brazil and abroad. He directly interacts with clients’ R&D, engineering and legal departments to provide assistance in patent due diligence, training, early stages basic research and innovation. Mr. Tögel is an expert in prior art searches, FTOs, claim drafting for patent and design strategies, patent and design portfolio management as well as prosecution strategies before the BRPTO. Mr. Tögel also assists clients with monetizing R&D, advising in patent and technology transfer projects.

Assisted a major dental implant provider against a worldwide market-leading competitor in launching products in Brazil and supported the patent invalidity litigation against the competitor. The case has been settled worldwide.
Represented one of Brazil’s largest freezing tunnel manufacturers in a post-grant procedure before the BRPTO narrowing the scope of protection of a patent granted to one of its worldwide competitors. Developed the technical grounds for the invalidation of the patent before the federal courts.
Represented a major German company before the BRPTO for obtaining patent and design protection of medical devices.
Represented major automotive and home appliance manufactures in developing and managing their patent and design portfolio in Brazil.
Assisted a German market leader for special pouring lids and closures for the food industry in a patent and design litigation against a local competitor, providing technical reports and engaging with the court technical expert.
