Julia Fernandes is a Pharmacist and Patent Specialist at Licks Attorneys’ Rio de Janeiro office since 2023. Prior to joining the firm, Julia has gained experience as an intern at an intellectual property firm, where she concentrated her practice in patent application filing in Brazil and counseling. Since 2019, she has been working with prosecution of patent applications/patents at the Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office (BRPTO), with emphasis on pharmaceutical, chemical and biotechnological fields. Ms. Fernandes acts performing searches, analyzing the specification and set of claims for proposing amendments based on the Brazilian patent system particularities, analyzing and reporting technical opinions from the BRPTO, preparing briefs to comply/contest said technical opinions, as well as drafting patents and Freedom-to-Operate (FTO) analysis. Ms. Fernandes has knowledge of the Brazilian Patent Statute, normative instructions and examination guidelines issued by the Brazilian PTO, as well as the main intellectual property treaties.
