Licks Attorneys, a Brazilian law firm recognized for its litigation, counseling and prosecution practices in Patent Law, Drug Law, and other specialized fields, announced this week that Gislaine Zulli (gislaine.zulli@lickslegal.com), master by IPEN/USP in the field of Nuclear Technology/Applications, researching drug delivery systems has joined the firm. With a career developed in multinational industries and the public sector, the patent and industrial pharmacist expert brings a unique experience to the firm’s recognized multidisciplinary team.
Ms. Zulli joins Licks Attorneys from the Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office (BRPTO) as a patent examiner between June 2016 and December 2022. In the BRPTO, she worked examining applications for cosmetic and dentifrices products, medical products, pharmaceuticals, and medicines arts.
From June 2016 to September 2019, she worked as an examiner at DIPAT-VIII (DIBIO), the division responsible for examining patent applications for cosmetics, dentifrices and medical products, (A61K 8/00, A61K 6 /00 and A61L, respectively). During that period, Ms. Zulli was responsible for developing and teaching an eight-module internal program on cosmetology for division examiners. In October 2019, she migrated to DIPAT-II (DIFAR-I), one of BRPTO’s Pharmacy divisions, where she examined applications for drugs and medicines, claiming compositions, compounds, according to medical use and kits, (A61K 9/00, A61K 31/00, A61K 33/00, A61K 36/00 and A61K 47/00).
She was also a representative of the Patent Directorate in the BRPTO’s Digital Transformation task force, in addition to having led the project that carried out the Office’s first hackathon. Ms. Zulli is also the co-author of the e-Patents 4.0 project, which is part of the current BRPTO’s Action Plan.
Ms. Zulli began her career in 2006 at the Cognis (now BASF), in which she was responsible for developing and applying cosmetic products for the Skin Care market. From 2007 to 2016, she held several positions as a Scientist at Johnson & Johnson, where she had the opportunity to lead and execute local, regional, and global projects in technology transfer, compliance, cost reduction, and business continuity, as well as qualitative and quantitative studies.. During this period, she worked with several brands of different Skin Care, Oral Care, OTC (over the counter) and Compromised Skin franchises, such as Listerine®, Johnson’s®, Johnson’s Baby®, Neutrogena®, RoC®, Band-Aid ®, among others.
In addition, she supported the implementation of the department responsible for managing the portfolio of raw materials used in cosmetic products for all brands in Latin America and worked for four months at Johnson & Johnson Colombia leading local and regional projects.
Graduated in Pharmacy at the University of Cuiabá (2002) and in Industrial Pharmacy at Faculdades Oswaldo Cruz (2004), Ms. Zulli has a MBA in Cosmetology from Faculdades Oswaldo Cruz (2004) and in Marketing Management at FAAP – Armando Álvares Penteado Foundation (2008). She also has a MSc – Nuclear Technology/Applications by IPEN/USP (2007), when she worked with the development of drug delivery systems.
