The BRPTO published on May 26th, 2020 in its Official Gazette #2577, an Official Notice informing the end of the suspension of its deadlines due to the Coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19). Deadlines will be resumed on June 1st, 2020.
As informed in our client alerts from March 19th, April 14th, April 28th, and May 12th, the BRPTO’s deadlines have been suspended from March 16th to May 31st, 2020.
According to this notice, the BRPTO’s deadlines will be resumed from whence left off, with the remaining time counting from when the suspension period started. Deadlines not yet started as a result of the suspension will begin on June 1st, 2020.
Users unable to perform any procedural act before the BRPTO must inform and justify this by means of an electronic petition, so that the Office may analyze the claim and decide on its postponement.
In-person meetings at the BRPTO are still suspended until further notice. Doubts or clarifications should be resolved through the BRPTO’s online channel. The BRPTO’s members will be on telework until June 15th, 2020, which is still necessary in this moment of crisis. Nevertheless, it should be reinforced that the BRPTO is working at its full capacity, and users should not be impacted.
